Sunsets

“Some nights I find myself chasing sunsets. Taking the long way home to stay on the western most facing roads so I can watch the brilliance of pink and orange across the skyline. And even as the fuchsia and royal purple dim to smudgy grey and deep deep blues- I chase those colors home- determined not to let another sunset pass me by. The day suddenly feels fleeting, under appreciated. The blanket of night drops over the land and for a moment I forget- I forget! But then, emerging from the darkness come tiny diamond sparkles of light, freckling the night sky. The moon looks down, half tilted in the sky, and gives me a nod. And I know I lost my faith for a moment. I forgot there is such wonder, even in the darkness. I forgot that beauty never ends, it only evolves from day to night.”
