Favorite Photo: September song

It wasn’t until that first cold rain of October that reality set in.

That cold, soaking rain and windy night that took the leaves off the trees and left the trunks and branches slick and black.

Without that, September sort of bled into October with all its sunshine and warmth. Remnants of summer. Leading us on to ignore this interlude before winter.

This transition that should be forcing us to get ready. But instead I have not gotten ready. I am planting trees and frolicking in the fields like this fall is going to last forever. I’m the grasshopper to someone else’s ant right now.

But I don’t even care.

In a year of too many endings and last times, I’m going to make like the grasshopper and sing… Just sing.
