How the big party turned out

Our Stranger Things themed 40th birthday party, reminiscent of Nick’s childhood, was meant to be scaled back to some simple decor and feel good food- like a favorite 80’s hot dish and jello!  Despite grand ambitions to make some of the backdrops, I actually lucked out at the Halloween store and found some great Stranger Things party props!  All the drama from days before of the muddy trench through our yard was forgotten and everyone had a great time.  Here’s how it all turned out!

Food Table/Menu

Set up in the corner of the garage with the newly revealed wood wall from the original house sheathing, we stapled up the signature Christmas lights from Season One and covered our tarp doorway into the laundry room with another purchased image of a demogorgon.

Here’s the same wall at last year’s party:

And here it was days before the party:

Menu

Besides the aforementioned hot dish and jello, we played up the iconic Stranger Things Eggo reference and offered chicken and waffles in the form of pecan smoked chicken wings and mini Eggos with maple syrup.

There were also party standards like chips, birthday cake and fruit roll-ups as a fun 80’s childhood throwback.  A big bowl of Three Musketeer candy bars was another nod to Season Two.

Costumes

I was truly impressed with the dedication to costumes from everyone this year.  Could be because we suggested anything 80’s would fly!  From bright colored vests to spot on replicas of characters from the show, the outfits added as much flair as the rest of the decorations!

Decorations

These Stranger Things balloons were an easy decoration choice.  But the real gem was the life sized demogorgon stuck outside in the weeds, the head of which was created for us by a talented friend.

We also had this vintage bike of my brother’s to use as a prop and fun photo backdrop.

Fire and Fun!

No party of ours would be complete without a massive fire to sit around and keep us warm!  The bar was not far behind and the karaoke kicked off in front of the movie screen we hung on the barn.

The singing went on way past our usual bedtime, but it was fun to party like we were in our 20’s again!

Another Theme Party was in the books and my husband reluctantly turned 40- at least he did it in the most memorable way!

Check out my brother’s 40th birthday party- our Walking Dead/Zombie bash from last year- Coming in October to the Blog!
