The Last Build

This year marks a tons of changes in our lives.  From losing two pets to adopting a new one.  From shifts in Nick’s career path to an unexpected shift in my own.  So I’m sending off 2018 with a goodbye to my life at Midwest Design Homes.  This sleek and streamlined contemporary ranch home will be my very last custom build with this company.  A place that has been a home to me for over a decade.  I am on to the next chapter of my life and I plan to update you on that in the future.  This little blog was born out of a desire to show off the projects I worked on for MDH, and it will be quiet around here for while, as it has been since fall when this decision to make a change first began.

So enjoy these pictures of my last build of the year.  My last build for MDH.  No matter what the coming year has in store for me- I still love design and construction and I will see you again in 2019!

How to do contemporary right.  Sleek and simple.  Clean lines and colors.

Glass accents add a sparkle to an otherwise monochromatic grey and black color scheme.

Quartz countertops accent the oversized island with cylindrical pendant lights to accentuate the hood vent and vertical lines of the room.  The two glass cabinets and three panel interior doors bring your eye back to the equally pleasing horizontal lines in the room, making the interest of the design less about details and more about the structure of the space.  A common goal in the simple design of contemporary homes.

In the master bath the design continues with a  band of black tile in the walk-in shower to widen the room visually.  A stone pebble floor adds a bit of fun, and the attraction of a spa feel to this retreat.

I hope to visit this house again when the new homeowners are all moved in.  They picked out an amazing wall paper for the mudroom that I am dying to see installed, and the entire lower level will be transformed into a dance studio over the coming months.  Having met all the people I have met through this career, knowing I could show up on their door steps and be welcomed with open arms…makes me realize that although I won’t be working for MDH anymore, this isn’t the end.
