How to Pick your Door Knob Color!

As you look at the front door for your home and the interior door style for all your closets and bedrooms, it is easy to overlook one simple decision: hardware.  Whether a knob or lever handle our selections usually come down to three main metal colors.  Let’s take a peek!

Aged Bronze or Matte Black

Hard to tell apart in pictures the color difference is a hint of a copper hue in the aged bronze compared to a true black.

Best if… your goal is to have a dark door knob that is metal neutral.

Can be easily combined with other metals, especially gold tones that don’t blend as easily with silvers.

Style:  A good fit for a vintage interior, farmhouse style or more warm and rustic look.

Satin Nickel

A shiny silver, but more matte and soft than a chrome.

Best if…you are looking for a pop of shine on a dark door color

Can be a good fit if you like matching all your metals and are doing stainless appliances and brushed plumbing fixtures.  Sometimes a harder shade to find in lighting.

Style:  Often used in more modern and contemporary interiors.

Antique Pewter

In the silver family, this metal has a black mirrored tint.

Best if…you want something more subtle that blends into the door color.

Can be easily combined with both blacks and other silvers.

Style:  Considered transitional, which means it works for a variety of interior styles.

Remember that not all metals have to match in todays interior- so if you are finding yourself attracted to more than one of the options above you may consider switching up your cabinet pulls, your faucets or your lighting.  Remember the eclectic metal mixing of this recent show home from last summer:

Have fun with it and acknowledge that some metal colors will always be trendy- pick what draws your eye the most!
