Five Fall Color Schemes for your Cozy Season Bedding

Every year I am amazed at how the season flips a switch. All of a sudden- the temperatures drop and all the warm summery vibes are gone. That’s not to say it won’t flip again (and again!) but if you’re anything like me- you’ll feel the need to upgrade your bedroom during fall’s mood swing. Layers and textures, heavier quilts and faux fur throws…if you’re looking for some ideas on new color schemes, here’s a few to get cozy season off and running!

Navy Blue & Leather

Now, this is not the most groundbreaking suggestion. Navy blue has been a staple color and I have called it a “new neutral” over the span of this black and white trend. If you did a coastal bedroom styling for summer than you might be able to incorporate some of the same shams into this warmer look. Update your look with a duvet in a burlap brown and additional pillows in rich caramel leathers.

Brown & White

Forget the color- this is all about the patterns! The brown and white quilt is a great print of mountains, pine trees and a buck. Set against a plaid it is a base to mix in the other busy blankets and faux fur.

If you’re not sure where to shop for a design like this you can always explore the artisans world of Spoonflower, where designers upload their creations for you to choose from. There are multiple products you can have made once you choose a print or you can buy fabric for your own projects.

Mauve & Grey

I once thought I would never see myself liking anything in the pink arena. but the soft introduction of shades of mauve after Millennial Pink ran it’s course has slowly won me over. I even bought velvet pillow covers for my emerald green and black forest room.

This print would be a great accent to any bedroom already decorated with tans, greys, denium blues or washed out blacks. Crisp it up with white pillows or deepen the cozy with a cable knit throw in a rich teal or harvest gold.

Red

Because these photos are taken at a rustic lodge furniture store- every thing is cozy, no matter the time of the year. Cabin design is unapologetically warm and snuggly- even in the heat of summer. So this bedroom vignette has it all- the fox picture, the knotty pine wall, the birch bark mirrors…

…faux fur and a woven texture lumbar pillow. The quilt is inconsequential- it’s only the base. Choose something similar with a small pattern, nothing splashy but a rich color hue. Then you layer. Layer all of this. Red is a great starting color because it is usually used as an accent. When you flip it and make it the foundation, almost anything looks good on top of it.

Blue & Brown & Yellow

This is for anyone who might still have a comfy chocolate brown bedspread in need of re-imagining. It’s not your obvious combo and reminds me a little of a back-to-school “college room dorm” color scheme. But I like that it is masculine. You can expand upon this idea with linens in a smaller pin striping in shades of blue or brown. Or make your own lumber pillow cover from a cute little rag rug.

And don’t forget the power of a graphic pillow that can make you fall in love with a color scheme-
