July Favorite Photo
I took this photo earlier this month in a small town I know well.
I love it for the very obvious reasons-
#1 It’s a cat riding a motorcycle!
#2 The reflections in the glass bend your perception of what you are seeing- is the cat inside or outside?
But another reason to love it is for what it represents in a community.
You see, to some- this may appear to be an unused storefront that is not living up to a perceived potential.
To others- the cat in this window is a daily stop, a friendly face looking out at them, a part of the daycare’s walk for the children to see, a delightful surprise to newcomers.
As a young child and through my early teenage years I watched the hustle and bustle of shoppers coming and going from this building when it was D&D Liquidators, especially on Friday nights when I had nothing else to do but sit in the window across the street and observe.
I never saw people smile the way they smile when they discover this cat.
It’s small thing, I know. But in a world of big things, we should all appreciate the small things just a little bit more.
