The Collected Home Series: For dog lovers

While we have been discussing the advantages of decorating through The Collected Home lens, it isn’t always easy to give definitive advice on how to look for the things that speak to you (they have to speak to you). But you also know that I love a good trend watch. As I shop my favorite stops there is usually something that stands out to me- from colors creeping into favor, artwork styles being revived or the resurgence of a forgotten tchotchke– that have my pattern recognition skills on high alert. Which is why when these furry little faces started popping up everywhere from mantles to bookcases, I had to start snapping pictures to prove to myself that I wasn’t imagining their sudden presence. These were all taken on the same day between three different stores. From ceramic to cast iron, shiny to weathered- here’s a quick look at an knickknack that is so easy to add to any Collected Home decor, you’ll be scouring your favorite antique spot with eyes wide open.

I mean, who doesn’t love dogs!?!

Now, as I offer up my findings I will say these are all accessorized perfectly. Which is what makes this a great example for The Collected Home Series. By looking deeper into each picture and how the scene is perfectly set, it can help you envision how you might create your own narrative for your favorite little dog find!

For the plant stand off your porch

With a garden feel and a book left open, this casual little ceramic dog becomes a part of a deeper messaging here. There is a ritual in reading, a slowing down as you take the time to turn the pages of an old book. Dogs are a part of daily routine and companions that usually sense when it is time to sit and rest.

At your writing desk

If you have a little desk in the corner of your bedroom or tucked in a hallway, this porcelain pup is a sweet little piece. Once an inkwell and holder for a pen, the petite antique pairs perfectly with blue willow pots and vases as well as other whimsical animal art.

On a craft table

If you need a little company while you sew a button or craft some jewelry, this glossy little dog is a creamy milk glass that is sure to blend into any decor. It will look especially sharp next to natural materials like wicker and burlap or the tarnished metals of an old serving tray or jewelry box.

In a more formal space

This duo was likely bookends at some point and they feel more formal and royal than some of our other examples. I could see using them as stops for a set of french doors to a screened in veranda or a hearth room.

At your champagne brunch

This smaller pair might be pretty in pink surrounded by books but I would actually love to see them on a elegant tray ready to serve up drinks or snacks for a small event. There is so much energy in their stance, as if you can just imagine their little tails wagging at the first words of praise.

The curious bystanders

With an alert pose and more iron facade- these dog statues become a masculine presence among airy glass wares, clean ceramic pots and rustic woods.

Dress them up or dress them down, they are welcome on mantles, a shelf of a bar cabinet or next to a stack of hand towels in a guest bathroom.

In honor of your own

This little statue looks like the kind you would acquire, not only as a dog lover, but as someone who once had a similar dog. And you would place that little dog on a shelf near some old pictures of your best old buddy. It would serve as a bit of a memorial, a tribute. And every time you passed by it would make you smile a tiny smile. Because the best pets remain with us always. For dog lovers they are an integral part of making a house a home.

I can’t think of a better example of how sentiment could play a role in collecting for your decor.
