What’s New in Tile (at Insulation & Supply Co)!
I’ve been consulting on a kitchen remodel that brought me to Manitowac over a couple of afternoons. One of those stops included a trip to the Insulation & Supply Tile company for backsplash tile. Now, I have admitted to struggling with how stagnant design has felt recently. I’ve found new waves of hope in last fall’s Wayfair catalog and the vibrant new store interiors of Ripon and Green Lake. So I was ready to set my sights on a new pallet of tile possibilities. Fortunately- Insulation & Supply Co did not disappoint! Here’s what caught my eye!
The softer side of hand-painted
These hand painted tiles represent a trend that has been alive and well for a while now. Usually the hand painted tiles I have seen where bright and punchy while these softer designs resemble a gentle water color pattern. I would also love to call this style “vacation tiles.” Mainly because when I see them, and think about using them in a Midwestern house, I imagine you would pick them because they look like they would appear in a resort. And I do love bringing home a design idea from vacation!
Glazed and Green
I’ve always had an appreciation for glazed tiles, even though I am sure one of these days the trend will jump the shark. The depth of colors and the feeling that they are more naturally saturated, as if the color was just left to run off the edges and pool up at the corners, is very appealing to me.
The variety of shapes and shades makes it easy to choose one for almost any style of home.
Art deco inspired
I believe the opposite of white subway tile is an ornate art deco tile. These embellished mosaics are standing out as the new modern trend for sleek minimal homes. One way they are doing it without looking too busy is by keeping the colors monochromatic and more natural.
The interest falls on the textures in the pattern as opposed to striking colors. Which is a basis to the appeal of the current “quiet luxury” trend.
Speaking of texture…
Even a simple black and white tile can surprise you. These tiles made me walk up and touch them to see if they were ceramic or some sort of leather accented with nail heads.
This was definitely a new tile trend for me and I can imagine the sleek glass residence they would play perfectly into. Grown-up. City-based. A bit bougie.
How about you? Have you witnessed any new tile trends that you found interesting?
