Mad About Plaid
I’m not sure if it is the revival of everything 90’s, the suggested new “Grandpa Cabin” trend, or my general yearning to return to classic colorful patterns after all this stifling black and white and grey, but I suddenly want to add plaid into my house wherever I can. It may have started with how much I loved these flannel sheets in the loft:
And it certainly could have something to do with this green blanket I snatched up at an antique and repurposed furniture event…
That led me to thinking about a fun area rug just for the holidays:
That led me to exploring the idea of a plaid area rug I could enjoy all year round:
This plaid rug has all the colors of my house in it- from the muddy brown grey of my dining room to my favorite wheaten gold, even the deep orange of my bathroom is present. I ordered it in a few sizes for this reason. Made by Safavieh, it is a wool flat-weave style rug.
It would definitely be a hit with the new quilt I got for my birthday that I have barely even taken out of the package.
And you can see by this chunk of painted base board from upstairs that it would easily compliment the grey-green color of the doors and trim.
I haven’t fully decided what rooms to put it in. My house leans on autumnal colors year round so while I know we are coming to the end of harvest season, this will still be my style for months to come.
Before we finish up our look at plaids I will share with you a peek into this woodland bedroom. In an environment that leans towards bold and saturated colors, a pop of red is often welcome. Buffalo check is a popular Christmas-time pattern and it adds charm to the otherwise muted gold duvet. I originally picked this patterned duvet because it reminded me of summertime lightening bugs. Warmed up with another antique store wool throw, it reads more like starlight or the spots of a fawn. We’ll be seeing more of this cozy little kids nook soon enough!
In the meantime- I’m off to see if I can turn any of my old 90’s flannels into pillows!
In Case you Missed it!
