Mid Mod Event and The Flower Gallery: A Small Business Summer Series Bonus

I’ll be honest- this is a very impromptu post. My next Small Business Summer Series installment was selected weeks ago and the plan was to publish it in August. While that is still in the works, I can’t help but slip one more deserving little shop into the mix!

You see, we recently enjoyed a lovely little weekend event known as Mid-Mod Manitowac.

While fairly new, the annual event features a car show, aluminum tree exhibit, historic tours and seminars on points of interest like classic jello mold recipes and the history of block printing.

There is also an adorable little market where people can sell their vintage wares.

Hosted by the Maritime Inn, we were able to walk a short distance to main street for ice cream at the classic Beerntsen’s Confectionery after we were done perusing the market and displays.

When I highlighted Manitowac in my Fall Travel Series last year I mentioned this long standing chocolate and ice cream shop and another downtown business- On the Surface, who had provided cabinets for a kitchen remodel job. I didn’t share any more about the nice boutiques and unique stores that grace the renovated buildings of their revitalized business district. So here is a quick little peek into the corner building that I just had to duck into!

The Flower Gallery

This is a home decor and gift shop that is also a store front for a working florist, much like The Stock Peddler in Shawano. The giant old fashion cooler case full of live flowers and bouquets greet you as you come through the front door. The marble base and vintage hardware assures you that this centerpiece is the real deal.

Besides plants and all the accessories that come along with them, The Flower Gallery offered much to see in terms of glassware, artwork, pillows, place mats, whozits and whatzits galore-

The sheer volume of color enveloped you everywhere you turned. Vibrant pinks and pastel blues, a splash of sunflower yellow…

And the building…

…tall ceilings, old masonry showing through, those same era vintage glass lights I clocked at Beerntsen’s last summer…

Besides having charm and great old building bones the entire store was also just a series of perfectly framed doorways to draw you from one display to the next. I highly recommend setting some time aside to shop and take it all in, every nook and cranny of this amazingly curated space.

And my absolute favorite find, that I hope to go back for- was this leather bound book full of rough cut hand-made looking papers. This was the kind that would be in the opening credits of a good old fashion fairy tale.

The Flower Gallery was the perfect way to cap off our little escape to Mid-Mod Manitowoc. In a few short hours we felt we had gone through more than one time era warp!

Another one for the Adventure Book!
