Window Treatments for a Door County Cottage

So you’ve fallen in love with the woven woods and panel track collection by Kirsch. Here’s the details-

Woven Woods (shown with preferred liner option)

This warm textured blind has all the wood tones to match the wood ceiling in this Door County cottage.

The Camden Thistledown is considered Semi-Opaque. This is a great choice for privacy while still allowing some light in to warm up the space.

Opacity without liner:

Due to the irregular and more natural construction of the blind, a liner can smooth out the light infiltration so that it will be received more evenly. The recommended liner color for Thistledown is Hazelnut. This is an attached light filtering liner for the Camden Thistledown woven wood.

(Note: the liner is hazelnut on the inside and white on the outside, meaning when closed and you are outside on the deck- the color you will see will be white)

A few other details include an example of the inside mount with a modern valance on top.

And the clutch control operating system, available in a few different string and plastic colors.

For this blind I would choose either Rich Cream:

Or Desert tan:

The other recommendation is that the blinds operate as a TOP DOWN- BOTTOM UP so that they can be dropped on top allowing light from the transom while maintaining more privacy below.

One other option to consider (that we haven’t discussed) would be the addition of banding on the raw edges. The Woven Woods series has a great rustic look to them, however, if you are looking for something a little more uniform and clean, an edge banded trim is available.

I would recommend the 5/8″ banding thickness due to the smaller scale of the woven blind texture. A variety of colors can be selected from:

The best color for the Camden Thistledown if you want a subtle cohesive look that blends (vs standing out) would be Biscotti.

For the patio door (and because the woven woods blinds is not available in the smaller size of the side window) a coordinating panel track and roller blind is a great textural compliment.

The color Nicole Fresh White is more of a cream that picks up on the woven warm shades of the other blinds that will share this space. Nicole Fresh White is a light filtering semi-opaque fabric that provides privacy and allows light in.

The operating system on the panel track is a plastic wand that will hang down on the right side. The panel track will open from right to left and stack as an inside mount in the jam of the patio door. This size of each panel is approx 11 1/2″. The top will be a Large Square Cassette.

The roller shade on the side window will be a cordless roller shade, also in Nicole Fresh White, with a similar cassette on top.

This Door County cottage has a vintage feel that reminds me of my favorite restored gems in Elkmont Tennesse.

The color chosen for the paneled walls and trim (above) feels very reminiscent of the interior of the cabins (below):

Putty wall color, warm woods, creme paneling.

The Woven Woods window treatments should add just the right amount of warmth and textural interest to blend the new with the old!

And much like the lineage of Elkmont, keep your own summer destination a cozy family friendly retreat!
