The Cakes of Sunday Night Supper
With all the September birthdays in our family the dessert menu of Sunday Night Supper is almost exclusively cakes for the entire month. After the Cat House Cake for my brother, it was evident that we needed something special for my niece and for Nick.
My mother has always inspired me with her ability to innovate on limited resources and without the outside influence of the internet. These little “Sunday Night Supper” tricks are straight from her creative brain. Although this year I quickly turned a medicine bottle into a garbage can for my nieces raccoon cake (my niece loves raccoons!).
Without further adieu, here are the 2024 Sunday Night Supper cakes of September!
The Woodsman Cake
The focal point of this cake may be the Sasquatch statue but my attention was all on these Combos as little wood stumps. My mom clearly scoured the snack aisle and thought up this genius all on her own. She also picked the little Heath bars for the color of the packaging.
The little “logs” found themselves across the top of the cake, around the base and filling the back of this little vintage pick-up truck. It was the perfect combo for my wood cutting outdoor loving husband.
The Trash Panda Cake
We threw it all on this one! My niece loves frogs and raccoons so I used tinfoil to cover a bottle to stand in as the garbage can and added the Swedish fish as more raccoon food. Color-wise it is not as sophisticated as some of our other creations but considering I did this in under 10 minutes- I’m happy with the fun spontaneity of it!
The Last One
I love the sophistication of this cake. It is dressed up with all decorations we already had and yet the cake looks completely different than the one we did in May with butterflies.
And that’s the Cakes of Sunday Night Supper for this birthday season! We have a few December birthdays yet to conquer this year but I am not sure I can top last year’s winter surprise for my mom-
I guess we’ll see!
