Week One: 30 Days of June 2023
For those of you unfamiliar with my photography series “30 Days of June” it stemmed from the belief that a photo a day would help me account the time a little better in a month that goes too fast. This could be applied to any month but my weakness is June. June is by far my favorite time of the year. It’s the time of year you can open your windows, wake up to the birds singing, enjoy the longest hours of sun shine, and be enchanted by the display of lightening bugs after the sun finally descends for the night. It’s green and fresh and full of summer promises. I’m keeping it simple this time around. Just photos of moments, mostly off my phone, unaltered and sometimes unspectacular, but a journal of the days none the less…
Day One:
We begin the month by finishing a project that was delayed by the wet April/May we had. Building a *surprise* volleyball court for our 14-year old.
Day Two:
8th grade graduation at Shiocton Schools.
Day Three:
The Vintage Trailor Fest at Bear Lake campground in Manawa is a must attend. We enjoyed scoping out ideas for our very own vintage Mallard camper.
Day Four:
Sunday Night Suppers now come complete with full action football games right in my parent’s front yard.
Day Five:
The much anticipated moment of the volleyball court construction: the sand delivery!
Day Six:
But wait! There’s more! We still have to spread the sand out and install the posts for the net!
Day Seven:
We finally surprise her with her new court!
And that’s week one! A single project might have dominated my images and time but it was all worth it and it is worth remembering. I also think background is something we discount in photos. Someday I will be looking back at these and studying the field edge and the trees. Each shot catches a different angle of our yard, our garden, our barnyard. I find later on I always wish I had more landscapes to compare, which is why I am taking a couple days this month just to photograph the field and the trails. As dull as it feels to do when you are standing there, I will be glad to have them someday.
Join me next time for a few more visions of our simple life in June and I hope you feel inspired to at least slow down and take a mental snapshot of each beautiful day!
