A new year ahead…
Every year since we bought this fixer upper foreclosure we have taken on some kind of project. They have ranged from the lean years when we refinished hardwood floors and painted ourselves to the larger kitchen and bathroom projects with funds we had saved.
Of course we recently accomplished the largest remodel we never even imagined ourselves doing when we added on the bonus room!
(Finally! A Build of Our Own!)
We’ve also always been adamant about walking through our yard and making a list of things we’d love to get to if we had time. For the past few summers we’ve said the same phrase- “Next year, next year is the year we are going to make our yard amazing!”
(Our yard was looking pretty amazing when we hosted my parents anniversary dinner in 2013)
Life is busy and summers always feel short. There are never enough sunny days to split between yard work and hiking or swimming. We always push ourselves up until the first snow, trying to get one last project done before we retire inside for the winter. This past fall we found ourselves outside every night until it was too dark to see finishing up a fencing project in the garden that had lingered. There was a pretty good sense of accomplishment that came with setting the last treated post in the ground.
But it was another type of project that really made the difference this year. We hired a great excavation and trucking company out of Black Creek run by Scott Marcks to clean up our overgrown barnyard and drainage issues behind our house. This has made such a huge difference I can’t even tell you!
This improvement was needed, but it was also part of a new project and another step in our journey! As we collect equipment and continue to dream- the new year ahead is the “next year” we have been waiting for!
Stay tuned &
Happy New Year!
