What to do when you realize a traditional fireplace isn’t for you
What do you do when you realize a traditional fireplace isn’t for you? Get creative of course! I’ve put together some of our recent fireplace projects that offer different ideas for getting your focal point feature just right!
The easiest way to shake up the look of a fireplace is to change the shape. The lineal fireplace offers different surround solutions and inserts such as glass and rocks. They can be placed in a stone setting with a wood mantle or floating on a wall between rooms with a metal surround.
They can also be designed to include a modern plastered surround and plaster mantle where the accent is the paint color.
Or incorporated into a built-in wall with a tile surround.
Now if you’re noticing the nature of these lineal fireplaces is that they are often centered on the wall, it is because they do require a bit more space to tuck into a corner. If you like the modern design of a tile fireplace without a mantle but are considering a corner application with a square unit, you might like something like this-
And then there is a hybrid of tile and shiplap, also mantle-less. While installed straight on, this idea could also be used with a square unit in a corner application-
Same goes for this work-in-progress fireplace at a new model home that features a wood look tile installed in a herringbone pattern-
Whether changing the shape, removing the mantle or simply trying for a more modern look, there are many great materials and choices out there to bring your vision to life. Even if you didn’t see one here that perfectly reflected your style keep in mind that photos are great- but full custom can be even better!
