The things that make me smile on my drive home…
Since the daylight hours have gotten longer I’ve noticed my drive home has changed. From the dark deer-ridden roads that I viewed only as far as my headlights would shine emerges a whole new world. Homes with yards.
I didn’t want to hold up traffic taking pictures of all of my favorite things on my drive home from work but I did want to sort of acknowledge the difference these homeowners unknowingly make on my evening commute!
To the house in town that keeps their Christmas tree up almost as long as I do, proudly displayed in their front window and decorated for valentines day, st. patricks day and finally Easter…
To the house with the old truck and gas pump that is strung with rope lights that blink and flash as if the tires are in motion…
To the house with too many yard decorations- I say keep going. You are to a point where the more you add the more awesome it gets!
To the owners of this new barn…I was so disappointed to see your old barn come down like so many others that used to be a staple across our Midwest landscape. But you built another one and gave it character.
I wondered where you’d put your nativity scene that you always opened up a door in the hay loft to display. But you thought about that too…
And finally- to the colonial house down the road from me who strung up big bulb patio lights in the branches of their weeping willow tree…many cold nights when I came home in the dark and encountered these glowing bright it reminded me that the warm long days of summer were right around the corner…
These homes and yards make me smile, make me chuckle and sometimes make my day.
So if you’re wondering if anyone has ever noticed your outdoor decorations you might just be surprised how much a part of someone’s commute they really are!
