Fairy Festival for 2019!
Since all my usual little fairies are growing up and getting so big I worried previously that Clair would outgrow the celebration. The good news is I have so many friends with new little ones turning the perfect age for cookie decorating and craft making that Clair is able to take on a helpful older kid role. And with that we are able to keep the spirit of this silly, adorable and summer solstice celebration alive! Of course, there is our new addition of sports-play to Fairy Festival that is keeping things interesting! And face painting took on a new look this year with unusual requests from all the kids!
How do you face paint someone to look like a deer or gazelle?
How about a shark?
White tiger?
Skeleton?
Zombie Fairy?
Whatever happened to the classic stars and rainbows? Not this year! It kept my brother on his toes and Clair lent a hand trying out her face painting skills. I even let her put a sweet little rainbow down the side of my face.
The rest of the activities followed our normal routine. There was a tea party and cookie decorating under the pine trees-
An amazingly inventive craft under the pergola that involved decorating plastic gum containers my mom has been saving for the past year. They were the perfect size for collecting woodland finds or containing tiny plastic unicorns.
When the kids got hungry, and tiny Nilla wafer cookies just wouldn’t cut it, I stayed true to my promise of a “woodland feast” with an array of brightly colored finger foods inside.
And there was our tradition of 3:00 Ice Cream break!
And just when the children seemed to be getting restless, Nick rallied everyone for a touch football game!
It was a lovely little day- with so much sunshine despite a start to summer that has been cool and wet. I am so grateful to all who came and enjoyed our Fairy Festivities!
It is nice to kick off the calendar start to summer with this tradition every year!
